Seriously impressive application of 3D projection

I just stumbled across this after reading about Apple’s patent on glasses free 3D technology, and was seriously impressed (way more than by the patent).

Apparently, in 2009 Sony hired Publicum Media to create a promotional movie for an upcoming line of mobile phones in Lithuania. The intention was to project this movie onto the front of the town hall building. So rather than ignore the geometry of the building, they actually incorporated it into the storyboard.

As far as I can tell, this is from a single-front facing projector:

Very clever.

Although, I suspect that you have to be directly in front to get the best view.

This was in 2009, so I’m sure everyone is doing it now.
