Machinarium

Strange and compelling.

Two words I would use to describe the game Machinarium. I keep thinking of Terry Gilliam cartoons from the old Monty Python series as I play it. The beautiful hand drawn environments, the unusual score, and the puzzles ranging from pretty obvious to fiendishly difficult make for a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

It started out a little weak, with some basic “pixel hunting” to assemble my robot avatar’s body, but once that was completed it became quite a challenging and intriguing game.

I know I’m late to the party on this one – the game has been released for some time, but it has an interesting back story. (You might want to skip the Plot Summary section, as this contains spoilers about the ending of the game)

I think it’s great that a bunch of guys just came together and started working on a game. I’m all for supporting independent development.

Try out the first level here.
